Hello, my name is Daniel. Thank you for taking the time to visit my page. I am a full stack software engineer located in the San Francisco Bay Area. I truly have a passion for building things, and I am always looking for new opportunities to learn and grow. I've been building websites as a hobby for years and in the past few years took my passion and turned it into a career.
My professional experience started at an early age of 15, where I worked as a Furniture Mover with my father. He was a great example to me of what it means to be a hard worker and to always do your best. I decided as a senior in high school that I would join the United States Marine Corps. I served for 6 years; half of that time being a Radar Technician, and the other half being a Marine Security Guard. I was stationed all over the world and gained a lot of valuable experience.
After my time in the Marine Corps, I knew that I wanted to take the leadership experience I gained and apply it to a new career. I was hired as a Field Service Manager at Dish Network. I was responsible for managing a team of 10-15 technicians and ensuring that they were providing the best customer service possible. I was also responsible for hiring and training new technicians. I was promoted to Operations Manager after just 18 months, where I was responsible for an entire installation office of 50 technicians.
During my time in these roles, I brought a technical expertise that was not common among my peers. I wrote small programs to automate tasks to save on administrative tasks common across the managerial staff. This allowed them to spend more time in the field with our technicians. The effect of this was that our technicians became more skilled, efficient, and productive. Our office soon became top 5 in the nation amongst 151 other offices (at the time).
Eventually I was brought on to a startup in AdTech. I was hired as the Director of Customer Operations. I was responsible for manging day to day operations of the company. I was responsible for managing the installation team, customer support team, and the manufacturing team. I was also responsible for managing the supply chain and logistics of the company. I was able to bring a lot of my experience from my previous roles to this position.
Because the team was small, my responsibilties were vast. I was able to bring a lot of my technical expertise to the table. From being able to manage projects, cost out projects, meet with clients, site surveys, and even install and config the equipment myself. I can say that this role was challenging and demanding, but I also had a lot of fun and learned a lot.
After that, I moved on to an Operations role at a transportation company. This was another fast-paced environment where I was able to bring my operational and technical expertise to the table once again. I was responsible for managing the dispatch team, the driver team, and the fleet of vehicles. During my time here, I first built out an operational dashboard in Google Sheets. While it was effective, I knew I could make it better.
Around this time, I decided that it was time to take my passion for building things and turn it into a career. I started building a webapp to manage the operations of our location. I was able to build a full stack application that was able to manage vehicles, schedules, drivers, and dispatch. I was able to build out a dashboard that was able to show real-time data. It was a great opportunity to showcase what I could do.
Simultaneously I was also enrolled in a coding bootcamp at MIT. I was very serious about building upon the fundamentals that I had learned at college and on my own. I wanted to learn the best practices and the latest technologies. The course was great for filling in the gaps that I didn't have before, but if I'm being honest I did find the course a little too easy. I had been applying for software engineering roles and was eventually hired at a small company in the healthcare space.
I was hired on as the lead full stack engineer for the company. I was responsible for building new features and maintaining the application. From development, devops, QA, design, and even some product management. I was able to bring a lot of my experience from my previous roles to this position. I was able to build out a scalable API that was able to handle a large amount of traffic. I was able to build out a robust CI/CD pipeline that allowed us to deploy with confidence.
During my time here, I was approached by a friend to help him build out a startup. This startup is in the Document AI space and is where I am currently working. I'm happy to be a part of a large, experienced team of talented engineers. Working together with them has been a great experience and I'm excited to see where this journey takes us. While I may be working in this role, I am always open to new opportunities and challenges.
2023 - MIT xPRO Professional Certificate in Coding
During this course, I acquired hands-on experience in developing and deploying web applications using the MERN stack, including APIs and front-end applications with React. I learned to establish Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines for efficient application deployment.
